Chocoholic Brownies
Today’s recipe: make the most chocolaty brownies you’ve ever tasted!
Every baker knows that making the perfect brownie is difficult. Balancing the chewy properties with light and airy ones is balancing act even the most seasoned bakers can spend a lifetime perfecting. Most come up short. The Winters, however, discovered that the secret ingredient to mind-blowing brownies is to pack as much chocolate into them as possible. So we did.

Ingredients
Brownies
- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1½ cups white sugar
- 1½ cups brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup applesauce
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Icing
- 3 tbsp butter
- 3 tbsp cocoa powder
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 2 cups powdered sugar
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease a 9x13 baking dish.
- Whisk the softened butter, sugar, apple sauce, and vanilla in a large bowl.
- Sift the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda and salt in a separate bowl. Gradually stir flour mixture into the wet mixture until blended. Stir in the chocolate morsels. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish.
- Bake until an inserted toothpick or knife comes out clean, 35 to 40 minutes.
- In a small bowl, beat the powdered sugar, butter, cocoa and vanilla until smooth. Spread evenly over cooled brownies.
